October 14, 2004 - 12:45 pm Books Mmmm. Cold and wet day, steamed up office windows and hot cups of tea. Nothing planned for this evening except frosty cold wine and a long hot bath with a trashy novel. I always buy books for 50p from the charity shop so that I can read them in the bath, that way it doesnt matter that they get wet and covered in bubble bath etc. And the more mindless the better, anything that doesnt require much thought at the moment its a chick fic about fairies and falling in love, before that it was a Danielle Steale about adultery and sex. Next I think I want to try a Jilly Cooper or a Jackie Collins, Ive never read anything like that before. Hidden away from the prying eyes of the world in my bathroom, surrounded by candles and bubbles is the perfect way to read such nonsense. My favourite book of all time is Jane Eyre. I love Mr Rochester and dont believe a word of it when Charlotte Bronte claims hes ugly. Hes quite obviously gorgeous and dashing and brutish. Grrr. The worst book I ever read was Polly by Freya North. My favourite quote from a book is from the Little Prince It is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye. The book with the best first line ever is Pride and Prejudice. It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife The book with the best last line ever is The Life of Pi. I wont ruin it for you by putting it here. The book I found most difficult to read was Captain Corellis Mandolin. The book that most surprised me was Mary Shelleys Frankenstein. The book I have read the most times is The Man in the Rubber Mask by Robert Llwelyn.
