Colleague in a mood

My colleague is in a right royal mood this morning. Not really justified considering it wasnt her who had to spend two and a half hours trying to get to work this morning (involving running from Embankment to Covent Garden in the pouring rain in a desperate bid to attempt to find any part of the London Underground that was actually working). No it wasnt her but me that had to endure the sheer ridiculousness of Londons increasingly useless transport system. And I am still smiling! But then again I am safe in the knowledge that this time next week I shall never have to venture into zone one again, unless I want to. Which I dont. Except maybe to visit the National Gallery: I like it there.

I digress. My colleague is in a mood because she is cold. So she has been flitting around our office turning on all the radiators. Fair enough; but one of these radiators is right next to my desk, I practically sit on top of it, so when its on full pelt I get rather warm and sweaty. Apparently this doesnt matter though because she is cold and my comfort must be sacrificed for hers. Ah well. Four more days and counting

So did we all have nice bank holiday weekends? Despite the rain and wind? Mine was quite nice, though I must have put away at least five bottles of wine over the course of three days and this cannot be good for my innards. Saturday was very surreal. Mr D and I set off to visit my father, who lives in Newbury in Berkshire, to visit for the night. We went to Paddington Station to catch the train and to experience the rudeness of South Western train staff. There were no trains running to Newbury for an hour so we went for a drink in a bar overlooking the station entrance, it was at this point things started getting weird. To start with we were sat next to a large tank of tropical fish that watched us, googly eyed, as we drank and were, for a good half hour, the source of much amusement for us. After twenty minutes of sipping wine and watching fish watch us though we realised that we were listening to a soundtrack of Christmas songs being played through the bars music system. So: May 1st; tropical fish; Mariah Careys All I Want For Christmas. So far soodd.

Without warning, all of a sudden, the entrance to the station was suddenly swarming with about 100 armed riot police with dogs. Im not kidding! One minute were in a bizarre fluffy little world of goggly eyed fishies and Christmas and the next were amidst a full scale drama! Oo-er! It turns out that these protectively clad policemen and their pets were escorting about 50 football supporters through Paddington Station to the tube. Quite why I dont know as most of the football supporters were 12 year-old boys with their Dads and they all seemed more interested in waving at passers by and singing songs than attacking grannies and waving their bums about. Still it was fun to watch.

The surrealism increased when I went to use the bathroom only to discover that hot water came out of the cold taps and cold water out of the hot. Very confusing - especially after two glasses of wine and all the excitement of riot police and fish.

After all that the rest of my weekend is too boring to recount lots of wine, lots of unhealthy food, lots of sitting on trains in the rain.

Mr D went away yesterday on a training course, he wont be back until Friday. I cannot describe how horrible this is. The last time we were apart was for one night: the night before our wedding back in November last year. We dont do being apart (well, obviously we have normal lives independent of each other, but we always fall asleep and wake up together) so this separation is REALLY weird. Tonight will be my first night alone in the flat ever. I just want him to come home.

Damn, Ive made myself sad now.
